Mi smo Bemax

I am most proud of the Bar – Boljare highway project

The company Bemax, as a company that has over 1,500 pieces of different types of machinery and equipment, constantly strives to improve that segment, so we keep up with modern trends in terms of equipment – said Muhadinović.

This year, the company Bemax once again proved its excellence by winning the prestigious award for the most successful company in the field of construction, awarded by the Top Business Montenegro initiative. This award not only confirms their dedication and hard work, but also their contribution to the development and modernization of the construction sector in Montenegro. In an interview with Pobjeda, the technical director of Bemax, Milo Muhadinović, revealed what important projects they are currently working on, talked about the technologies they use, the challenges they face and plans for the future.

He specifically referred to how modern technology is transforming their work, enabling more efficient and innovative approaches to construction.

Muhadinović shared with us what is the inspiration that drives him and at the same time gave advice for young people who want to build a career in the construction industry.

POBJEDA: What are the biggest challenges you face in your daily business?

MUHADINOVIĆ: There are several challenges that affect the business of a construction company at the moment. First of all, I am referring to the lack of a sufficient number of workers, especially qualified ones. It is a known fact that, due to the insufficient number of workers, we have to bring them from other countries, primarily from Turkey. However, labor coming from Turkey is quite expensive. The solution to this is to bring in workers from India, Nepal, and the Philippines who are cheaper, and also of better quality and in greater numbers. Now that’s where we run into a problem. In the environment, all countries can bring workers from these countries. For now, this is not the case with us. There are already workers from these countries in the EU countries, also in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Croatia, while in our country, due to the lack of promptness of our administration, it is still not possible to obtain a work permit for workers from these countries. This does not affect construction, but also tourism as an important economic branch in Montenegro.

Another problem, during the implementation of projects, is the prices on public procurement tenders. The investor adheres to bureaucratic rules so that the prices do not follow the real increase in labor costs, machinery and materials on a global level. There is not a small number of cases where no one comes forward for the tender precisely because of the inadequately estimated value of the tender.

The third, and no less important, problem is inadequate project documentation. In a large number of cases, during the implementation of projects, i.e. at the beginning of the works, a tour of the field determined that the adopted project solution is not of high quality and that the project must be changed, which increases the costs of the works and extends the deadline for the completion of the project.

POBJEDA: How does Bemax solve labor shortage problems?

MUHADINOVIĆ: The only way, for now, is the constant hiring of labor from Turkey. We hire more workers than we need, primarily because of their lack of expertise so that the work on the construction sites runs smoothly. We hope that, in the meantime, the problem of work permits for workers from India, Nepal, and the Philippines will be solved in order to solve the labor force problem in the whole of Montenegro.

POBJEDA: What are the most important projects currently being worked on by Bemax?

MUHADINOVIĆ: Some of the most significant projects, on which the company Bemaks is currently performing work, are – the reconstruction of the main road Lepenac – Ribarevina – Poda – Berane, approximately 40 km long, the investment value of which is EUR 43,235,550.02 including VAT, which we are carrying out in partnership with Strabag AG. Construction of the Tivat – Jaz boulevard, approx. 17 km long, investment value of 65,237,466.77 euros including VAT, and where the works are carried out in partnership with the Shandong company. In the field of high-rise construction, it is necessary to mention the reconstruction project of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, the investment value of which is EUR 54,427,000.00 including VAT, where the works are carried out in partnership with the Chinese company Dongfang. It is also necessary to mention the just completed reconstruction project of Mediteranska Street and 22 November Street in Budva, investment value of 2,924,681.38 euros including VAT, where the Municipality of Budva got a modern road and solved numerous problems in that part of the city.

POBJEDA: Can you share some details about the Bemax projects that are planned for the next period?

MUHADINOVIĆ: The plan for the next period is to carry out works on high-rise buildings, namely the 8,000 m2 office building called “B2” in Podgorica, located on Zetski vladara Boulevard, the 3,600 m2 office building “Glossary” in Donja Gorica, the continuation of work on Riva hotels , Falcons and Kruzer in Budva, as well as the continuation of work on the construction project of the first phase of the garage in Kolašin. When we talk about civil engineering, we should mention the continuation of works on the reconstruction of the road Lepenac – Ribarevine – Poda – Berane, on the construction of the Tivat – Jaz boulevard, traffic roads on Luštica, the continuation of works on the reconstruction of the Opačica and Moštanica canals in Nikšić, as well as the start of work on the project construction and reconstruction of the road Vrulja – Mijakovići. In the following period, we also plan to carry out works on investment road maintenance. As we have announcements that the works on the second section of the Mateševo - Andrijevica highway will start next year, and bearing in mind that we carried out part of the works on the Smokovac – Mateševo section, we expect to be involved in the realization of that project as well.

POBJEDA: How does technology affect the construction industry and how does Bemax use new technologies in its projects?

MUHADINOVIĆ: Considering the rapid development of technology, as well as its impact on all aspects of life, the construction sector is also technologically advanced. Namely, the development of technology leads to the invention of new and improvement of existing machinery and equipment, the invention of new construction methods and the appearance of new materials on the market. The company Bemax, as a company that has over 1,500 pieces of different types of machinery and equipment, constantly strives to improve that segment of our company so that we keep up with modern trends in terms of equipment. Also, we visit material and equipment fairs where we can see first-hand the progress in that field and apply it in our business if we judge that it is something that suits us.

POBJEDA: What inspires you the most in your work and what do you consider your greatest success in your career?

MUHADINOVIĆ: The biggest inspiration is working on the biggest construction projects in Montenegro, and that is what working in the Bemax company entails. I am most proud of the project of the priority section of the highway Bar – Boljare, Smokovac – Mateševo, where the Bemax company carried out work on four tunnels, seven bridges, two overpasses, complete asphalt works on the entire section, as well as all works within the Smokovac loop ( as part of the loop there is also the Smokovac bridge).

POBJEDA: What advice would you give to young people who want to build a career in the construction industry?

MUHADINOVIĆ: I would advise them to be hardworking, patient and to have a desire to learn and to constantly improve their knowledge, because that is the only way to progress in a business sense.
