Danilovgrad: The municipality could not fix the road, in the end the material was donated by Bemax

An interesting story comes from the surroundings of Danilovgrad, where the locals wanted to finance the tamping of the road from their own funds, after the local administration could not meet them. But in the end, the material was donated to them by the private company Bemax.

As Dan reported, the Municipality of Danilovgrad explained that it cannot pave 200 meters of road in the village of Begovina because there are priorities, and there are not enough funds. Hence, Ognjen Kalezić, a citizen of Danilovgrad, and his neighbor decided to pay for the buffering of that road from their own funds.

Kalezić, who previously pointed out the problem in communication with the Municipality of Danilovgrad and its president Aleksandar Grgurović regarding this road, told our newspaper that he is still faced with a wall of silence from the local administration and the absence of a reaction from its leader, requesting that he be provided with the criteria and order by which decisions on infrastructure investments are made.

“Until today, I have not received a single concrete answer. I wonder, like every citizen who regularly fulfills his obligations to the Municipality: what are the rules for deciding where to invest? Who decides, on what basis? And most importantly – when will it be our turn. In the only answer I received, Mayor Grgurović refers to “precisely defined criteria” and “professionalism”, but without any concrete data. Instead of communicating with citizens, he chooses to ignore their needs and behave as if the questions from the everyday life of his fellow citizens, they do not concern him,” Kalezić told Dan.

Nevertheless, this example indicates that the situation can be triggered when the system decides to ignore the needs of its citizens.

“In the neighborhood where I live, my neighbors and I decided to repair a road that is over 80 years old. We organized together and approached the Bemax company with the desire to buy 50 to 60 cubic meters of tampons. Just two days later, an employee from that company contacted me and announced that the material would be delivered – as a donation. His words were: “This is a gift, you are our neighbors. If you need anything, we are here for you”. This act not only surprised us, but also sent a strong message that even among large companies there are those who listen to the needs of citizens and are willing to help – without interest, out of a sense of responsibility towards the community. We are grateful to the Bemax company for recognizing the importance of the problem and reacting quickly, concretely and humanely. Their gesture shows what social responsibility means in practice and how much it means when someone decides to be part of the solution”, said Kalezić.

Although the public lighting in that neighborhood is still not functioning, Kalezić praised the efforts of individuals from the Secretariat for Transport.
